Over the last couple years, Rust has become one of the most popular video games on Steam and considering the fact that it just launched on Console we can only see it going up from here. While the survival gameplay elements and the in-game interactions are definitely major reasons for its success, another part is due to the number of customization options the game provides. Since there are so many skins to choose from, we have decided to list the 10 most expensive Rust skins, so let's begin!
Before we get to our top 10 we'd like to mention that you can purchase Rust skins via the Steam market or many other 3rd party marketplaces. Items purchased off the Steam market will receive a 7-day trade ban which is why 3rd party marketplaces have become so popular, nobody likes waiting.
1. Punishment Mask ($1,866)
This is the most expensive Rust skin you can acquire to date & comes in at the number #1 spot in this list! Coming at a whoppin' $1,866 it is the most expensive and rarest skin in the game. Certain people say that even though it's the most expensive it isn't the best-looking skin in the game, do you agree? This skin was release for purchase in-game on Nov 24, 2016 for only 3 hours, the skin first sold on the steam market for only $29. If you were lucky enough to purchase this skin back then, it's safe to say you made a great investment.
Fun fact, the creator of the skin wasn't able to purchase one for himself since it only released for 3 hours and he was at disneyland for the day.

2. Metal Tree Door
From a fierce mask to a wooden door.... worth $1,825 and getting rank #2 on Rust's most expensive skin. We know what you may think, what the f.... why is this worth so much? Well, let us tell you.
The Metal Tree Door was released on Oct 4, 2018. It's an average looking skin with no standout features; but there's one thing that's been the cause of it's astronomical rise in price. This item received a DMCA take-down and wasn't on the store for too long. You cannot find this item on the Steam Workshop and very few people were able to obtain it while it was purchasable. Similar to the "M4A4 - Howl" from CS:GO this items price is inflated simply due to low supply and the legal action taken against it. The creator of the skin and who they stole the art from is unknown.

3. Alien Relic SMG
This SMG comes in at a hefty price of $1,064 and ccomes in at#3 on this top 10. Who wouldn't like an insanely priced SMG to dominate their opponents in fashion? Despite the low quantity of them listed on the Steam market, you'll find this particular SMG being used a lot in Rust. Unlike the #2 spot, this skin deserves it's placement. The glowing iron sight is the reason a lot of weapon skins rise in value so much, many older skins have this feature which aids gameplay at night. This addition to skins has since been banned for all new workshop submissions, but the old skins remain untouched. Pay to win?
Released in late 2016, Rcham's originally released with the description "Made from the machinery of a civilization long past, this gun hums and glows with power!" little did he know this would become the most expensive SMG in the rust market!

4. Big Grin
Placing #4 in our ranking, the Big Grin is THE most popular skin on this list. Although the price may slightly differ day to day, this particular mask has been stable at around $700 and isn't looking to go down anytime soon! The luxury of Rust trading is that skins can go up or down as the market fluctuates.
Released in October of 2016, the creator explains "When I made this skin back in 2016 I only bought one copy because it was $10". Well he made a 70x growth on that investment at least.

5. Glory AK47
Coming in at the number #5 spot is the highest priced AK in the game! The Glory AK47 was submitted to the game on 23 Mar, 2017. The price has risen so much because just like the #4 spot, this skin also has a glowing iron sight.
Fun fact: The creator of this skins inventory is private, we wonder how many of these he bought. If he ever decided to sell his stash we're sure it would effect the market quite a lot.

6. Tempered MP5
Placing #6 on the list but most certainly one of the better looking skins. There are 13 different tempered skins in rust including the Tempered Facemask, AK, Bow, and Thompson; but none of them are even half the price of the MP5.
All the Tempered skins in the game are by the same author. Considering Rust gives 30% of all skin sales to the creators, he's definitely made quite a lot with just a simple gradient pattern.

7. Fire Jacket
The Fire Jacket comes in at the #7 spot with an impressive price of $343. When you compare it to the top 3 you start to realize that maybe $300 isn't as bad as it might have seemed without looking at this list. In combat, the Fire Jacket not only makes you stand out but shows people that you're the shit. I mean, who doesn't want to be dominating whilst wearing a Fire Jacket? I certainly would!
The author of this skin is quoted saying "Now you can all feel like a real firefighter! :D" under the workshop listing. Due to the price significantly rising most people unfortunately won't be able to feel like a "real firefighter" as he once hoped. Now that I look, not even the man who created the skin owns it, a truly sad thing to see. I blame capitalism.

8. Horror Bag
The Horror Bag (boo) has definitely got a scary theme, the price sticks to that theme coming in at a horrific $300! Some people may say what, $300 for a bag? And to that we say, maybe you're just too scared to purchase the Horror Bag.
The "Horror Bag" first posted as the "Sleeping Horror" and was released just before Halloween 2015. This limited edition item was only available for about 3 weeks before leaving the game, before it was taken off the rust item store the creator made sure to purchase a few of them; but his inventory is private and we can't see how many he has.

9. Tempered Mask
The Tempered Mask only comes in at $230 You can almost purchase three of these masks for the same price as a Big Grin. The question is what's better? The Tempered Mask is much more popular than the Big Grin and seen quite often in game.
If you go to the workshop page you can see a user saying "if you didn't buy this skin in the market you lost out , its going climb to 40$ very quickly". Well sir you were correct. Now it's worth $230, sadly the speculator doesn't have any copies of the mask. I think he may have sold his investment too early.

10. Creepy Clown Bandana
Some users may not agree with this and think it should be ranked higher but the Creepy Clown Bandana finishes our top 10 with a price of $229.
Fun fact, the skin received a DMCA strike & the creator deleted his entry along with his steam account. The Bandana is still commonly used in Rust till this day! The bandana was released Halloween 2015.
